The SEC may believe TAMU's value is growing and has a good chance

of getting on par with Texas. If there comes a day when TAMU and Texas are truly on par with each other, then the SEC may not care whether Texas is a member of the conference or not. Oklahoma is the king of the state and has a decent following/presence in the DFW metro area.

Like I said in one of my other posts if the SEC is going to expand, then it will need to do it in such a way so Alabama and Auburn can end up in the same division as Tennessee and Georgia respectively. Those 2 rivalries are the only reason the SEC implemented the protected cross-division rivalry. If the SEC adds Oklahoma and say Kansas or Kansas State (example purposes only), then the divisions would look like this:

East: USCe, UK, UT, Vandy, UGA, UF, Alabama, and Auburn
West: Ole Miss, Miss State, LSU, Ark, TAMU, OU, Mizzou, and Kansas/K-State

If Texas decides to join one of the other power conferences, then it may be stuck with Texas Tech and Okie State. It is even possible that Texas's value without Oklahoma may suffer more than Oklahoma's value without Texas.
